Wedding Errands Week!

20 February 2012

It's running of wedding errands week!

Food tasting, 过大 礼 and choosing of Fathers' jackets all happening whole of last week.  I must say, it's an exhuasting but eventful week filled with happiness and joy!  At least for now, the only task left for our wedding preparation is only the table seating arrangements...  *PHEW*

Popa and Moma 报病而来 for the food tasting hence they didn't really get to try / enjoy the dishes much and it's such a pity that most of our dishes choosen for the wedding banquet are some of Summer Palace's signature dishes!  But Grandpa did enjoy his meals especially glasses of red wine after another served during the dinner.  :)  Overall it has been a good food tasting experience, hopefully our "approved" standards for this food tasting will stay consistent throughtout our wedding banquet.

Food tasting at Summer Palace / Fathers' studying the 4D results for the week / We tried Chef Liu's signature dish > some crocodile dish / Reviewing the banquet dishes with Chef Liu's assistant

We had our simple 过大 礼 (a Chinese wedding custom, a procedure whereby the groom to send the bride's gift as requested by Bride's family two-three weeks before the wedding day).  We actually traveled for about 235km to delivering 喜饼 to relatives!  That was like about 7 times around Singapore!!!

ah Thiang's Mom prepared the following:
> 2 bottles of Chivas
> 18 oranges
> 18 canned of pig trotters
> 2 pairs of dragon & phoenix candles
> 龍鳳鐲
> 聘金 and ang baos
> 10 boxes of cakes

Some of the items returned back to ah Thiang's family:
> 2 bottles of orange juice
> 2 oranges
> 2 canned of pig trotters
> 2 boxes of cake
> a pair of plain red candles
> Some 聘金 and ang baos

Some of my dowry brought back to ah Thiang's place:
> Towels
> PJs
> 2 battery operated lamps
> Tea set
> Pillows, bolster, bedsheets, pillow cases, bolster cases
> Baby bath pail, face basin, spitton, sewing box with rolls of threads+needles+scissors, tumbler, comb
> 2 luggages filled with my new clothes

**all items were decorated with 喜喜  stickers and tied with red ribbons...

My Advanced Valentine Surprise 2012!

10 February 2012

My ah Thiang, my love, my valentine!  *XOXO*

I surprised him with a Holga lens compatible for his Nikon D200 as this year's Valentine's day pressie!  Was browsing online to find out what lomography camera is all about and came across this website that sells compatible lens for Nikon DSLRs.  They have ex-stock and my order was delivered the next morning at his desk!  *sounds like our igus express catalog orders eh...*  Photo taken using Holga or Lomo lens gives you those vintage or lomo effect without having to edits using editing tools.  Cool right!  But not so cool was D800 was out... and now his is aiming that to come...  :(

> His Valentine's pressie and my love note to him...

And guessed what... the next day it's mine turn to get a sweet surprise from him!  (Maybe due to my nagging to him hinting that I'm lacking to recieve flowers from him for the longest time... ooooops, HAHA!)  I had a very late lunch Yesterday and when I return from lunch, it was already sitting beside my desk.  My colleague accepted the delivery on my behalf.  A vase of Calla Lilies with purple Freesias and a bear with heart was delivered in a lousy styroform box (LOL) on my desk.  MY FAVORITE FLOWERS!  SWEET!!!  I didn't expect any flowers for this year's Valentine...  but it turned out to be a very sweet surprise indeed!  ++You're welcome.++

> Her Valentine's pressie and his love note to me...

My record receiving teddy bears and flowers during this 7 years of courtship (not including other memorable gifts and surprises):
  • 1x shasha bear with flowers on my birthday in year2006 or 2007
  • 1x bouquet of tulips on valentine's day in year20XX (maybe 2008? duh!!!)
  • 1x sheep with flowers on my proposal in year2009
  • 1x MS teddy bear from his UK trip in year2010

OK lah, must be my bad memory... averagely year to year I did recieve some flowers, cannot nag at him anymore...  Now all my teddy bears in my room can has new friend... meet my new room-mate; Fluffy!  ++Muahahahaha++

Happy advanced Valentine's Day to all!

庆祝元宵,庆团圆!

06 February 2012

元宵节 is also known as Lantern Festival, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the first Chinese lunar month.  It is closely related to Spring Festival.  This is the first time people see the full moon in the New Year.  It is traditionally a time for family reunions.  It is customary to eat special sweet dumplings called "Yuanxiao", round balls known as 汤圆...

Today, we did not have 汤圆 but we were all gathered at gram's house for a reunion feast prepared by Chef Ho aka small uncle!  Such a bliss to have a former-chef to whip up delicious-ly decorated feast (standard can fight among the best few Chinese Restaurants hokay...) for every celebrations like this and I can see that grampa enjoyed tonight's reunion feast, VERY MUCH because he has the BEST appetite among us like never before!!  ++still drooling from the feast...++

After the feast, I was back home unwrapping all my ang baos; my 压岁钱 > unleashing all the cash I have collected from the past 15 days of celebrations!  MUAHAHAHAHA... this will be my last year to have such 'enjoyment' counting my 'earnings' for the New Year...
